Clean Up Australia Day
4th March
Area Cleaned: Leslie and Hillview Drives, Muirlea
Meeting Place: Kholo Gardens
Number of:
Car bodies: 6
Tyres: 70+
Washing Machines: 3
Bottles: oodles and oodles
We arrived a little after 7.30am. Gary and Betty were
already waiting in the carpark. We set up at one of the picnic tables,
and started setting
up for the day. After registering all the volunteers, we set
off at around 8.15am. Jim and Phyllis Williams and Daryl Parcell went
along
Hillview Drive to see what rubbish was along there, whilst
the rest of the crew went along Leslie Drive.
It didn’t take us long to fill a couple of trailers with bits
and pieces. Jim radioed to say that they needed some assistance,
as there was way more rubbish than anyone had expected. Gary
and Betty also needed some assistance with car tyres and empty bottles.
The rest of us continued up Leslie Drive. By 10.00am
we had filled and emptied
several trailer loads of rubbish and were ready to tackle the removal
of some of the car bodies lying around. We had a quick morning
tea and then back to
the task at hand. By 12.00noon we had removed 6 car bodies and
several more trailer loads of rubbish and were well and truly
ready for lunch.
It had been a very hot and tiring morning, with not a single
sign of rain. (So different to last year)
