ANZAC
Day Cricket Match
Wednesday, 25 April, 2007
We had a 10.00am start to allow everyone to go to an ANZAC Day Service
if they wished. 40 members arrived for morning tea prior to the game. We
could give the local cake shops a run for their money, morning tea was
yummy. The men set up the trailer, BBQs, tables, shades, notice board,
TV and DVD/VCR and placed all the stickers in relevant places, ready for
photos as required by the grant.
Teams were selected: - Captain of the “A” team, Elaine
Wilson and captain of the “B” team, Reece Lenehan. There
were a total of 15 people in each team. Umpire: Jim Williams. Scorer:
Sandra Moore and assisted by Phyllis Williams.
Jim tossed the penny—this was won by Reece and they elected to
bat first. A few wanted to take the two-up pennies off for a game of
two-up, a traditional ANZAC Day game, however, the cricket game came
first. Rules were discussed with the umpire prior to start of game.
Top scorer in the “B” team was Graham Moore with 23 runs.
(He hit a 4 on his last ball). Special mention for some of the more
noted players: Jack Thirkill (3 years old) got 5, Zack (Sandra and Graham’s
grandson (5 years old) got 3, while the only duck scored in the “B” team
was Stewart Bishop. They were all out for a total innings of 76.
Top scorer in the “A” team was Paul Bishop with 24 runs,
however there were 3 other players who had to retire with 20 or more
runs. Kyle Bishop scored 4 and Michael Lewis was out for a duck. Special
mention must go to Zach for Betty’s run out. Chris Lenehan overrun
the pitch and knocked down the wickets and the wicket keeper, Reece
Lenehan. The “A” team were all out for 164.
Congratulations to all the players, the clear winner was the “A” team.
Thanks to the umpire and scorers.
Those of the “A” team who had had their bat and a few of
the spectators fired up the BBQ, and it was ready when play finished.
Sausages and onions on bread were the menu of the day. This was followed
by more yummy desserts.
Winners of the raffle for 3 tins of ANZAC biscuits were D’wayne
Russell, Lorraine Cummings and Sharmaine Kilpatrick.
Thanks to everybody for coming and making it such a fun day,
Lorraine Cummings and helper Elaine
