Teewah Beach

11 - 12 March

Attendees; Mario ,Eleni and Natalie Massimissa, Glenn and Kay Taylor, Bill Freeman and Rose, Jim and Phyllis Williams, Neil and Desley Middleton, Gary and Betty Chapman, Dorelle Majsakowski and David Newman, Daniel Centrih and Leigh.

We met Jim Williams and Bill Freeman at 6am at the old Gailes weighbridge and for a change we weren't the last ones there. On the way up Daniel met us at the obligatory breakfast at the Burpengary McDonalds. Onwards to Tewantin to buy bait and call in to the Ranger’s Station to collect our permits. We continued on and arrived at the campsite at approximately 9:30 am. To find Glenn and Kay, Neil and Desley, Gary and Betty and David and Dorelle had already arrived. The rest of us set up camp and had lunch.

About 12:30 we headed up the beach along the Freshwater track to Rainbow Beach where we stopped for some supplies and ice-creams. We headed down to look at the rocks at Rainbow - they were completely exposed and unpassable but someone had tried to go through before us. Back out along Rainbow Beach road to Pettigrews road which runs off Kings Bore road, with a quick stop at camp Milo to see the steam engine but it was non-existent (I think someone stole it). The drive was fairly easy except for a couple of soft patches which required a little extra momentum for the Suzuki. No problem for the Middleton patrol as Desley was driving, although Jim did jump out to hug a tree once they reached the top of the hill. We arrived back on the beach around 4:30 pm and headed back to the campsite to have dinner although Daniel and Leigh headed back home as they only came up for the day. We stayed around the imaginary campfire till around 9:30 when it started to rain and we headed off to bed.

Sunday morning after breakfast we headed up to Rainbow Bay to find the beach non-existent (probably taken to keep the steam engine company). Stayed for a while, Gary had a swim, we had a fish but there were no fish to be caught. Off back to the Cherry Venture and fished for a while and caught a few dart, then back to have lunch where most of us started to pack up and we were on our way home by around 4:30 pm. Glenn and Kay were in their glory as they had the whole campsite to themselves for an extra day.

An enjoyable weekend had by all. Not a lot of driving but what we did have was fun and relaxing. The beach conditions overall were good considering the recent bad weather. There was lots of foam on the beach which made cleaning the vehicles very difficult. By the way, David gets the fisherman’s award of the weekend for catching three rather large Bream on Saturday morning before we arrived. Thank you all, Mario.
