Rover Park

15th - 16th April

The Easter Weekend was well attended by the club with approximately 24 cars out of the total of about 315 cars booked in for the weekend.

Friday morning as club members were arriving and setting up I decided to take the 4 or 5 cars that came in the afternoon before for an easy drive up to the Copper mine – Gold mine and processing plant and on our way back in to see the cliffs and abseiling area, the school kids used a couple of days before, and then back to camp for lunch.

Friday afternoon we drove Olly’s way right through with one hold up of about ½ hour as one car had trouble with some washouts and as I cut the trip short came down the slipway with one car trying to hug a tree at the top, “hey Bill”, but with an expert recovery saved the tree and car and headed back to camp by 4.30pm in time to collect firewood for the night ’s cooking and camp fires.

Saturday morning, we left camp with about 17 cars to go check out the rock crawl area and then down to the river camp sites and on to a little play area in which I led some cars on a faint track around ‘The Rock Challenge’, with a couple of cars having a bit of trouble, except for one, John Lucas holding up progress for ½ and hour or so and then a slow trip back to camp. I think we did less than 3k’s in about 3 hours.

Saturday afternoon we fill about 10 cars and headed out to the beach and for the lucky few, a refreshing swim before the climb up to the cars and a slight detour back to camp. More firewood and Happy Hour over in front of Lyn and my van. About 5.00 – 5.15pm everybody disappeared as there was Wine Tasting at the Kiosk, which saw a lot of merry folk return to camp.

Sunday, saw the Easter Bunny visit all the camp sites leaving little goodies. More trips were organised for the day. Sunday afternoon also saw a few camp ovens appear and Roast dinners were prepared for the lucky ones.

Monday morning a short trip over to the waterfall, which was still just running, and after this a few cars returned to camp to pack up. I took about 5 cars on another easy trip, only to have 2 cars get stopped in different spots. Then back to camp to find some already gone and the rest slowly packing up.
A big thanks to all who came down and I heard all really enjoyed the property. Next time a bit more of the harder stuff, as I think you all missed it.
