CHRISTMAS PARTY
18th and 19th November, 2006
What can I say about a very enjoyable weekend!!
Where can you go free for 2 nights with such a large grassed flat area,
and hot showers and toilets not to mention free electricity for some?
With all the vans and trailers now in the club the spot is ideal. We
have some very keen campers in the club who arrived at Lake Dyer on
Thursday, and the others arrived on Friday and Saturday. Friday night
about 20 of the campers went into Laidley to have dinner at the pub.
They tell us they behaved themselves.
Saturday morning all the preparation began. Brett, Melissa, Gordon
and I, drove to the Big Orange to buy the vegetables and collect the
bread, then onto the butcher at Plainlands to pick up the meat. When
we returned the big tarps were erected and decorated. Dave arrived with
around 2.00pm with the new shade shelters and most of the group watched
them being put up for the first time and checked out the signage on
them.
1.30pm we began cutting up all the salads. (Many hands make
light work) Paul and Nicole Bishop arrived with their boat and most
of the children and some adults enjoyed the water activities. 3.00pm
we all sat down to relax and enjoy the happy hour.
Santa rang on his snow phone to say he was arriving at 4.00pm. He arrived
on time with all the presents for the children and adults. Lots of the
children are growing up but still like to sit on Santa’s knee
to receive their presents. The little ones were also good, not one child
cried. Then came the presents for the adults, and they also seemed to
enjoy sitting on Santa’s knee. We all had a great laugh.
The raffles were drawn and how lucky was Ian McDowell winning the large
hamper.
The BBQs were fired up and the 4x4 chefs began cooking the 100 steaks,
100 sausages and a bag of onions. Good we could supply them with a few
coldies to compensate the heat of the barbies.
Thanks Phil for bringing the BBQs. Great meal there was very little
left over. Deserts followed later on, and as usually there was a great
variety of yummies.
During the evening we all sat around and swapped stories around the
campfire while others remained under the shades. Believe some of the
club members are going for singing lessons next year.
Sunday morning after the cleanup we had morning tea with the left over
deserts, and then most started to pack up and head for home. Except
for Neil and Desley, Gordon and myself, and we left on Monday morning.
Thanks for helping to make the Christmas Party a great weekend.
Lorraine Cummings.
