The weather was excellent.

We left home about 0445 that is 4.45 in the am, yes there is such a time of day, even though it is still dark we managed to pick up the Harris’s and the Williams’s jnr at the old weigh bridge at Gailes. As we went along the Centenary Highway we picked up the Middo crew and proceeded up the Bruce Highway to the Ettamoga Pub where we slowed down enough to allow Alan Goessler to bail out, to pick up his new toy.

The weather was excellent.

We arrived at the Ranger station /information office at about 0700, to find Bill Freeman there waiting for, us and the ranger. Once the ranger showed up we all registered and headed off to the beach. By this time Brownie and Alison had turned up.
It was interesting to see the vast array of deflation instruments being used to deflate the tyres. From high tech state of the art pieces of timber, car keys, to staun deflators, proving if it works why change.

The weather was excellent.

Getting on to the beach was almost un-eventful except for snatching Bill through a soft spot.

The weather was excellent.

As we drove up the beach I called Marty, so as not to drive past the area the other club members were camped in, only to get the reply “I’m driving up the beach where are you?” it was Bill about 4 metres behind me. Pretty soon Marty and Phil were directing us to the camp sight.

The weather was excellent, a little hot perhaps but not too bad.

The new arrivals set up and by the time they said hello to the 15 campers already there it was lunchtime, well morning teatime. After a short rest a bit of a swim and an early lunch we attempted to go for a drive up the Leisha Track to look at the rocks, then into Rainbow beach, down King Boar Road back to camp.

We got to the Leisha Track and there were 6 or 7 vehicles in line to have a go at it. Which is fair enough. As we got closer we could see there was about five vehicles stuck on the track itself. We drove up to the Point then back to the Cherry Venture and had an ice-block. Some stopped to watch the goings on, on the Leisha Track while the rest of us went back for a swim and some fishing.

The weather was excellent.

Happy hour was had over-looking the surf with everyone joining in. It seemed that most were in bed fairly early after a brief fireworks display.

Morning time and the excellent weather continued. After breakfast we finished what we started Saturday. This time we went straight up the Freshwater Track. While we were at Rainbow Beach we went up and had a look at the Carlo Sand Blow. How spectacular is that? We stopped at Frankis Gulch on King Boar Road to cool our heels.

Only one vehicle had a bit of difficulty on the Sunday trip getting held up in the soft sand but managed to traverse the obstacle without assistance.

Did I mention the weather?
Well it was excellent not too windy a little bit warm great to be sitting beside the beach enjoying the magnificent view.

I know we had at least one happy camper. Maralyn got to do a track she has wanted to do for a while. We headed back to pack-up leaving a handful of lucky ones who didn’t have to leave until later in the week.

Thankyou to Marty for leading the second part of the Sunday trip and thankyou to all who attended for making the weekend so enjoyable.

Joe
