Driver
Training
25th September
Our most recent club Driver Awareness training day had one of the largest
number of participants.
Although rain was forecast the day turned out to be bone dry.
This was rather sad as apart from the obvious need for rain, a bit of mud
would have made the day very interesting,
The biggest casualty of the day was the recovery gear. With
constant expansion and contraction, the very dry conditions resulted in
dust accumulating in large quantities in the snatch strap.
A Toyota tried to demonstrate the breaking of a coupling and
subsequent recoil of the strap and D-link. The demonstration showed that it
didn't have the power to create any recoil and it was generally agreed
a Nissan should be used next time.
The very dusty conditions had a big impact on traction and
in particular it showed the benefit of having a LSD - limited slip diff.
The lack of rated tow points on some vehicles, was identified
as one aspect owners may need to look into.
Once again, thank you to the trainers who gave up their family-time
to run the day. There dedication was greatly appreciated.
