Brooklyn Trip

15th - 16th October

Toowoomba Club came to the rescue. Merv was Snatched. May have been only a few inches but he was snatched. I didn’t think I would ever see the day. Leon you are a hero.

I arrived Saturday morning while Dave, Merv and Ian from our club and Leon from Toowoomba Club arrived earlier. The weather was fine but overcast so out driving we went. We went over hills and dales with a few challenging hills.

One hill in particular we all let our tyres down and away we went. There was easy start or the hard start. The larger patrols couldn’t go the easy start as there was two trees so close together. Dave had an interesting day there on Friday where his back wheel dropped into the crevice and his left front wheel was about 4 feet (that about 1.3m) off the ground. Tony from the Toowoomba club while diving between these two trees came around a little too fast and slid into the larger of the trees causing a little damage to the bull bar and the front panel of the patrol. My patrol went up it so well I had my adrenalin rush for the day while Ian came a little later and his front wheel went into the crevice and the Leon’s patrol from the Toowoomba Club went back down to help him.

We travelled through the rainforest on the property and it was a beautiful drive. We stopped and went for a short walk to the waterfall, no water, it would have been a better sight had water been covering over it. A little later we found the tree you can walk through. The Buttress roots are just so wide and it makes a walk through area in the creek bed.

Back to camp early and a few beers and then a little rain made the night drive doubtful but it didn’t rain much so after dinner we set off for the night drive. Another car from the Toowoomba Club arrived before dark, (Ian and Tony) and set up camp.

Terry the property owner came with us as a guide for the night. We travelled across the highway into the forest with tracks that have just been reopened past the rifle range and it was a night without mishap. A few challenging little hills that my patrol had a bit of fun, and the Landrover Discovery had fun getting up. There was one hill we went down which was very steep and even after the little sprinkle of rain we had we all took extreme care going down without mishap.

We got back to camp about 8.30 p.m. The camp fire was really nice but due to the rain we couldn’t sit around it but joined together in the shelter shed and with a few more beers and good conversation eventually all went to bed.

We awoke Sunday morning and it was still raining. Surprisingly the logs we had put on the fire had all burnt out even though it rained all night and there was enough coals to start the barbecue fire.
Following breakfast we all packed up in the rain and headed for home early after pumping up tyres and some good conversation.

A good weekend was had by all and it was a little disappointing that more didn’t come but the weather was a bit dicey and I’m sure kept some at home.
