Clean up Australia Day
6th March
Helpers on the day:
Stephen Sims, Carmel and Joe Elmore, Gordon Bishop and Lorraine
Cummings, Jim & Phyllis Williams, Rohan Hayes, Nathan Stitt (local
resident), Paul, Nicole, Stephanie and Brendan Bishop, Mal Hiscox
Clean Up Australia day was clear, fine and hot. The weather
was actually excellent.
Thirteen Club members and one local resident, gathered at the Haig Street
Quarry at 8.00am.
We split up into a two groups, some staying and covering the
environmental area on foot, while the rest of us with trailers attached,
headed for Henry Street to clean up the bush.
We gathered 26 bags and many trailers of rubbish, which well and truly
overflowed the 4 metre skip provided. Along with assorted car parts we
found 32 tyres, household paraphernalia, a tent filled with grass clippings,
pushbike, television, bar fridge, high chair and baby clothes. Nathan (the
local resident) was amazed at how much work the club was prepared to do,
to clean up the area.
We had a draw for a t-shirt which was given to us by clean up Australia.
The shirt was won by Brendan Bishop.
After sharing lunch the day finished just after 12 noon.
Thanks again to those who helped make this another successful club outing.
