IPSWICH 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLUB DINNER DANCE
IPSWICH 4WHEEL DRIVE CLUB DINNER DANCE
It was a night to be remembered by everyone that attended. The day begins
likes this:
All the arrangements had been finalized and the evening was well anticipated.
I had prior arrangements that day and decided to attend them leaving myself
plenty of time to get back to the house and gather the decorations by 3pm.
What I didn’t plan for was traffic and road works. By 4pm I was still
rushing home to make the flowers for the tables and crossing off the list
of goodies to bring.
By 5pm I was finally dressed and on my way to the Club stopping off to
collect Joe and Carmel Elmore. Many thanks to Joe and Carmel who assisted
me with blowing up the balloons and preparing the tables. At 6pm a few
of the guests started to arrive and the drink bar was open. I managed to
just finish off the last table just in time. By 7pm most of club members
had arrived. In all 76 said they were coming and a few late comers like
Elaine and John Lucas managing to drag themselves out with a few of us
encouraging them to still come. Some waited 25 minutes to catch a taxi.
As we sat down at the tables I noticed that there were still a few empty
seats. Maybe I counted too many but as the night rocked on, the chairs
were soon filled. The smorgasbord of hot and cold food satisfied most of
our members as I didn’t see too many going up for seconds. On the
other hand the desert line was quick to be filled. The band played back
ground music until we all finished with our meals.
By 8.30 pm the presentations were being awarded and Merv got his name
yet again on the board for “Driver of the Year”, however he
wasn’t there to collect his prize. “Rookie of the Year” went
to Kelby Williams and he was most surprised. The “Club Person of
the Year” was divided by six people, Joe and Carmel Elmore, Graham
and Sandra Moore, Garry Chapman & Garry Christensen. After the presentations
the raffle was drawn and would you believe it, the President himself, Paul & Nicole
Bishop won first prize. No doubt they will be off soon to celebrate the
dirty weekend at Springbrook. By the way we are not invited to attend.
Throughout the night the band played on asking me if they could get the
crowd involved in some games. This was most entertaining because as the
night carried on the games became more and more liberated. Especially surprising
was the ball up the man trousers and down the other side was won by our
oldest member Neil & Desley Middleton.
Just when we couldn’t laugh anymore the last surprise game was pass
the noodle between everyone’s legs and soft ball and lamb chop. In
the end there were only 3 members left not naming any one but we do have
video footage and will be shown on the net soon. As you can imagine the
music got faster and so did the passing of the noodle between their legs!
It was all in good humour and fun and the night finished off at 11.30
pm just before the games got any wilder. Many thanks to those that supported
the club through donating gifts for the prizes and again to Joe and Carmel
for their assistance on the night.
Can’t wait to go to the next one next year 2005! It should be interesting!
