Beerwah Forest Trip

Sunday 4.7.2004

Since I've now given up on trying to be first to arrive on a trip, I thought I'd go the other way and be the last to arrive, and had immediate success. One problem though, you get lumbered with the trip report.

In my defence though, I was told to arrive "about 8.30am, and we'll leave about 9am", and I did arrive on 8:30 am, only to hear on the radio, "O.K., if we're all ready, lets go." So we joined in front of Merv, who was calling himself Tail End Charlie.

There was a very good roll-up (19 cars, I think) and it wasn't long before we were all in dust, corrugations and steep down-hill tracks, which everyone seemed to enjoy. Easy to please lot, aren't we. The day progressed through the usual up hill, down hill, smoko, lunch, lots of talking, but strangely, almost no talk on the radio. That's when I found out Jamie had changed the radio channel, but not all of us knew. He reckoned it was a good way to avoid any complaints, and it certainly worked.

To the best of my knowledge, the dreaded snatch-strap only came out once, and that was for the second car (a 60 series Cruiser) to retrieve the leaders car (a 60 series Cruiser). Go figure that one out! There must be a fine in there somewhere!

I did notice quite a number of small children on this trip, and I hink it's great to see more young families taking up the challenge and joining club trips.

It was Jamies first trip lead, and I'm sure that it won't be his last, as the day was a great one, with no damage (that I'm aware of), lots of challenging tracks, and most of all, lots of good Club fun. Well done!

Last to arrive,

Gordon Bishop
