Rover Park
24-25-26 Jan 2004
Arriving at the park camp ground just before 9am Friday and being greeted
by Hans & Heidi the owners, I had just enough time to pick my spot
before 4 more of our cars rolled in from camping just down the road a bit.
With everyone setup we went for a short drive to see the waterfall before
lunch and with all the recent rain the falls were flowing quite well, the
best I have seen it. After lunch we went for a drive up to the copper-mine/gold-mine
and the processing plant and on our way back to camp we came past the comp
area with the organisers and a couple of competitors having a look at the
course which had plenty of water flowing over half of it.
Back at camp Ian Knabel had arrived and setup so before the rush some
people had early showers and just before dark Dieter and Stewie arrived
and after parking his caravan it started to rain, actually a storm, the
first for the weekend. Saturday morning we went over to the comp area to
watch and with what they put those through they can have it. Back to camp
for a late lunch and as it was too wet to drive a lazy afternoon went down
well.
Matthew & Luke rocked up too late for tea that arvo so had to feed
themselves and with arriving it gave us 12 cars all up. Saturday night
another storm but not enough to stop Sundays comp which some of us went
over to watch while others went for a drive into Tenterfield for a look
around and a day out as the tracks were too wet to drive.
After lunch on Sunday 4 cars went for a drive down to see the beach but
the track down to it was rather slippery with some cars in front of us
getting into all sorts of trouble so we parked the cars and walked down
to the car park and down to the beach, which due to all the rain they have
had was under water and the gorge was running well.
On our way we had some fun of our own with Ian getting bogged and then
Stewie in the same spot. Monday morning while most were slowly packing
Matthew and myself went out to put up a couple of signs and had a bit of
a drive around but it was still to wet so back to camp, have a bite for
lunch and slowly pack up and we were the last of our group to leave at
about 1pm, ready for the 4 hour trip home. Thanks to all who came down
and as you all said you enjoyed the place, another trip later on in the
dry to see more of the place will be on. By the way they reckon there were
about 265 cars there.
Until next time.
