Ormeau Revisited

31st October

After a quick briefing we left the meeting place at Yatala just after 8.30am and headed for the hills with 12 cars.

We stopped just past the water tower to engage hubs for those of us with older style cars and hit the dirt and just before our first turn off my boy Matthew came over the radio asking where we were as he was in front of us, luckily on the same track so we passed him and he joined in front of tail end.

The first creek run went off pretty smoothly with a couple of cars scraping side steps in places and the rest of the way to the smoko spot went quite well with no dramas.

After smoko it was a slow trip in the direction of the lookout for lunch but on the way in the last section of Carnage Canyon we came across Gold Coast Club having some fun getting a car up one section so we all stopped and watched for awhile.

Moving off after probably 15 minutes we snaked our way up and down a couple of tracks and finally made it to the lookout for lunch. During lunch the other club turned up looking for a shady lunch spot but we had it. So after a short lunch we packed up and moved down to do some serious four wheel driving.

Back down at Carnage Canyon most of us turned off into the rocky centre bed and as I had not planned to go right through, we did anyway with a couple of cars taking the first escape track, the rest got through no problems.

From here we headed to the bottom of the creek although a couple of slower movers got a bit lost on the one and only down hill track, but we all got to the “play area” where there were quite a few other cars.

After a couple of cars had their play I think most of us hit the first stages of Carnage Canyon with all cars getting through sort of unscathed and then back to the play area for the climb to the top road which was rather uneventful.

From here it was down hill to the smoko area and another small track out to the main track and then back to the water tower. End of trip.

Thanks to those who came along on the day and thanks to Bushy for helping with the Recci. You all said you had a good day, I hope so as it was a bit long getting out at about 5pm. So we will see you there next time.

Merv

P.S. Everyone gets a fine for the day so bring your money to next meeting.
