Lockyer State Forest

Supermodels go 4x4

I’m lead to believe everyone gathered at the Caltex at Blacksoil at 8am, and reportedly were joined by some new club members. The new members were Petra (Pete Middleton), Rosie (Barry Garner), Wilhemina (Bill Freeman) & Bree (Brett Lynch). Apparently these supermodels gathered for a photo shoot, then proceeded to leave there at 8:30am. Kerri and I joined the convoy at Gatton. Hearing the chatter on the radio, sounded like everyone was up for a good day. We proceeded to the state forest via Gatton-Esk road. Entered state forest about 9:30am and tracks were pretty easy going for the first part of the journey. There was a mud puddle that I had to play in and got labelled as a grot by Sandra Moore. Then we came to a washout at a creek that did provide a challenge. There was lots of wheel lifting, but all made it through except us but with the help of Graham Moore standing on our front we became unstuck. We continued on through a couple of small creek, then did a simple decent and hill climb.

Not long after, we had smoko in a small clearing. After smoko we proceeded up a hill with lots of tight turns and log crossings, at this point Rosie revealed that “She’s good in the tight spots”, mental images well scar most for life! We stopped half way up the hill and parked the cars and continued by foot up the hill. Most made it to the top, with some stopping half way up as we were told that was the best view (We didn’t need to be told twice). We continued on through Rosie’s tight spots and back onto the DUSTY maintained road. After a short while it was nearly lunch time and through some more mud. Wilhemina was upset at getting her wheels dirty. Then we tackled a short hill climb into a clearing where it was decided we’d have lunch.

After Lunch, we descended back down through the mud and onto the track and through some more creek crossings and a rocky climb, to the top of the next hill. By this time our new members defrocked and revealed their true identity. We did a challenging descent back down into the valley where we had a chat about how to get back up as the last part of the descent was moist black soil and may have caused a few issues. It was decided that we take a new track back up. We all got to the top without any dramas and headed back to the bitumen. It was a great day had by all which finished for ice cream at MacDonalds at Gatton.
