JANOWEN PARK

13th – 14th November

Having left Yamanto at 6 pm we were looking forward to a week-end of four wheel driving. I have never seen the Fassifern Valley so picturesque. The outline of the mountains in the scenic rim tinged with pink & blue hue made this part of the trip very spectacular.

The stares were shining brightly when we arrived at the camp ground. After a chat to the campers who arrived early it was time to find a level spot. It doesn’t take long for me to put the roof up & Daryl to do the outside chores. The evening temperature seemed to drop some, making it good sleeping weather.

Saturday saw quite a lot of members arrive with our LEADER for the week-end. After they all set up we went driving. Nice & slow, easy going even though the rocks were there to remind us we were 4x4 driving. Heading back for lunch we found some mud. The men being boys were happy. Gary Chapman was keen to go first & promptly skirted around the mud. You may need some change at the meeting. Dieter, Wayne, Chris, Ian were the entertainment for the morning by giving their cars the mud treatment.

After a short break for lunch the always keen drivers & passengers were lining up for some more driving. Interesting is how I would describe some of these tracks. Some of the ladies were happy to watch the men testing there skills. Graeme found himself in a position impossible to get out of so the trusty snatch-em strap appeared and he was moving again.

Happy hour, for 1 or 2 hours then tea before joining in the circle around the camp fire. To the fire wood collectors THANKS. Camping isn’t the same without a fire & I think unfortunately in years to come that is what will be happening.

All too soon Sunday morning arrived and after a very slow start the word was circulated that there would be a trip leaving at 9.30 am so the men and some ladies mounted into the cars and set off for another couple of hours driving. Daryl decided to leave me and the cruiser at the camp and go in Jim Williams’s car. With everyone out of the way it was down to some serious socialising, with me showing off the photos of our two trips of the year.

The four wheel drivers arrived back at mid day for lunch. We had a quiet afternoon before starting to pack up at about 3.00 pm ready for the trip home. We were among the last to leave arriving home in time to unpack before dark.

Again another great week–end, thanks to the Middletons, who organised this enjoyable camping weekend.
